Wednesday next week, on April 4th, the entry for the ‘Open for all’ IAAF World Cross Country Championships Aarhus 2019 opens at aarhus2019.com. The website has just been launched with in depth information on the various distances for the recreational runners.

Four years ago Denmark hosted what became a game changer within the World of Running as 30,000 runners from all over the world participated in the IAAF/AL-Bank World Half Marathon Championships Copenhagen 2014.

Now, the Danish Athletic Federation has turned its focus on the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. In close cooperation with Sport Event Denmark and the City of Aarhus Municipality, the IAAF World Cross Country Championships 2019 will take place on Saturday March 30th at the picturesque museum and woodland surrounding Aarhus. A non-traditional course including the grassy roof of the museum will not only feature the World’s best distance runners, but also offer excellent opportunities for recreational runners to participate.

The organisers are looking forward to a giant celebration of the world’s fastest runners as well as of those who wants to try the challenges of cross country running.

“Ever since we hosted the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2014, we have discussed with the IAAF how to combine elite and recreational participation. The IAAF has been very open to our ideas, and we truly believe that our event concept for the World Cross Country Championships will promote Cross Country as a spectacular sport. Our plans have received significant attention within the Global running community. Now it is on us, the Danish running community, to show the world a Danish version of the pursuit for excellence mixed with the great joy of running in Nature,” says LOC Director of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and Director of the Danish Athletic Federation, Jakob Larsen.

At the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Aarhus 2019 recreational runners can participate in the following distances:

The Sprint: The chance to go full speed on the original WXC course – including the steep 100 meters atop the Moesgaard Museum, before you sprint to the finish line. The Sprint is the opportunity of a lifetime, for all runners who wants to get an up close and personal feel of a true world championship experience. Runners of all ages are invited to a personal attempt at conquering the WXC course.

The Relay: Pick your friends that you don’t get to see enough. Pick whoever you know will want to take part in the party of a lifetime or teammates that are built for speed. Or how about inviting the family to a different running experience they are likely to never forget. Or you go solo for all four rounds!

The Toughest: All the best from cross country and trail running – in one race. The classic recipe for cross country has been spiced up with just the right amount of slick grass, mud, challenge zones, forest single tracks, gravel roads and water passages in a course set to bring you the best of both cross and trail. Served to you in the middle of a giant WXC party!

The Search: Want to race with the best of the best? Here’s your chance. Everything is included in this unique experience: You start in the elite’s race, access to the same start and finish area as the elite, “The Search” Call room before start, opportunity to measure yourself against the top runners from nations all over the World. Before toeing the startline, please read the fine print.
