Prehistory presented innovatively in a breathtaking architectural setting makes for a world-class museum experience when you visit the Moesgaard Museum near Aarhus. Archeological exhibitions – which present the Danish Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Viking Age and Middle Ages – and ethnographic exhibitions allow visitors to come face-to-face with the people behind the displayed artifacts. Moesgaard Museum also presents special exhibitions.
The 16,000 square meters large exhibition building and the use of staged settings, dramatized storytelling and state-of-the-art research all come together to make the exhibitions at Moesgaard Museum appeal to visitors of all ages while creating a sense of shared experience across generations.
Moesgaard Museum is a world-class attraction not only because of the architectural design of the museum and the exhibitions, but also due to its location in the beautiful natural surroundings south of Aarhus. The grass-covered roof is open to visitors throughout the year and offers a spectacular view of Aarhus Bay, Moesgaard Forest, the old Manor and the surrounding area, which is worth a stroll when the weather allows it. During the summer, the roof is used for theater performances, concerts and picnics, and during the winter it is the best sledge run in town.
The museum shop offers a large selection of books, jewelry and other fabulous gifts. The café serves tasty courses with a Nordic twist in a delightful setting with a view of the sea and the forest.
